Two Christmas markets and a paper museum entertain Year 8 Germanists on trip to Basel

On Thursday 7 December, a group of Year 8s who study German flew to Basel, Switzerland for a very Christmassy trip, which began with seeing some beautiful decorations from the tram we took to our hostel.

Our first visit on Friday morning was to the Basler Papiermühle (paper mill museum), where we learned about the history of paper, printing, and papermaking. We even had the chance to make our own paper and do some printing.

After the museum, we explored the Basel Christmas market, admiring its grandeur and the giant Christmas tree on display. Following this, we had lunch before taking a stroll to the Barfüsserplatz, which hosted a much larger Christmas market. We used our language skills to buy souvenirs and hot dogs. The area was filled with illuminated shops and the delightful aroma of baking bread. Finally, we had dinner at Zum Braunen Mutz, where lots of us enjoyed schnitzel.

It was a fantastic trip. We wish we could do it all again.
