Woldingham community gathers to celebrate Christmas at Westminster Cathedral

5 December 2023

Woldingham celebrated Christmas in words, music, song and prayer in the splendid setting of Westminster Cathedral on Monday 4 December.

In a service led by Woldingham’s Chaplain, Fr Gerry Devlin, a congregation of more than 1,000 members of the Woldingham community listened to the story of Christmas, told through seven readings given by Alison N, Head Girl, Mrs Harrington, Head, Laura K, Year 10, Caitin D, Year 8, Anjali P, Lower Sixth, Fleur D C, Sacred Heart Ribbon, and Mr Skelly, Theatre Manager.

Student and professional musicians joined Woldingham’s choirs and choirs from St Francis’ Catholic Primary, Caterham and St Mary’s School, Hampstead to fill the cathedral with beautiful music, which included an arrangement by Music Ribbon Isabel of 16th century carol Gaudete, and Rejoice and be Merry, composed for this year’s carol service by Iain Farrington. There were also lovely solos from Upper Sixth students Cherry L and Immy D.

A wonderful Carol Service concluded with a rousing rendition of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing by the whole congregation, choirs and musicians.
