Sports Day is perhaps the ultimate highlight in the PE Department’s sporting calendar and on Wednesday 28 June it was a pleasure to share this great event with the whole school, family and friends. It is a wonderful community occasion, which enables our new Lower Sixth House Captains to lead their House for the very first sport event and an opportunity for everyone to pull together for House honour.
I was delighted that, once again, we struck a fantastic balance of sporting prowess and team spirit. Nothing warms my heart more on Sports Day than watching students run along the inside of the track as they support their friends finishing the 1500m. I was equally excited for our top athletes to have the chance to showcase their impressive talents on a whole school stage.
Each year, students compete as members of Barat, Digby, Duchesne and Stuart for the House Athletics Cup and individually for the Victrix Ludorum. The latter prize is awarded to the highest scoring athlete, using scores from English Schools Athletics relative to age. This year, it was won by Anastasia C G (Lower Sixth - Stuart) with a staggering 59 points. There was a tie for second place with Daisy L (Year 7 – Digby) and Irina B (Year 9 - Stuart) on 49 points, just ahead of Eliska S (Year 9 – Stuart).
The overall House event was a battle until the end, with Stuart taking the title for the second year in a row. Barat took second place, Digby third and Duchesne fourth.
