Alumnae open Mardeners’ minds to a wide range of careers

Miss Jamie Gallagher, Director of Higher Education & Careers

With new careers and job roles created every day, at Woldingham we believe it is important to start conversations early and encourage students to start thinking about their passions and skills. This week saw our annual Marden Career’s Fair for  Year 7 and Year 8 students, where they heard from some of our fantastic alumnae about their career paths. The students were given a flavour of what it might be like to work in management, dentistry, marketing, business, publishing, fashion, banking, wellness and yoga, events, law and music. A broad range of possibilities that will have started many a young mind thinking of the future…

On the same day, Year 10 students sat their Morrisby career profiling assessments. These assessments last nearly two hours and help uncover and identify each student’s personal strengths, skills and ambitions. Morrisby provides each student with a detailed report on these, as well as access to her own personalised web resource and virtual guide to education, training and careers. As interests and circumstances change, profiles can be developed and refreshed, leading to new tailored suggestions, advice and information. As a follow up to the assessment, students will meet their personal tutor for a coaching session to discuss their report and any possible upcoming actions. In Year 11, they will also be given the opportunity to have a one-to-one with an external career consultant if they wish to explore their report in more depth. They do, of course, have access to a great deal of ongoing support from teachers and tutors, as well as myself and other members of the higher education team, and we encourage them to ask any questions they may have.
