On Thursday 10 March we were delighted to host the Royal Institution’s ‘Energy Live’ show for the day, ahead of the start of our celebrations for British Science Week (11-20 March 2022).

Students in Years 7 and 8, and later in the morning Year 9, thoroughly enjoyed this action-packed show filled with exciting demonstrations of butane rockets, ethanol bubbles and the famous Van der Graaff generator, to name but a few. The show’s interactive nature meant that several students were able to assist Gareth, the show’s energetic and entertaining presenter. One of many highlights was a race between two students using a hand pump to blow up and burst a balloon, which was attached their helmets.

In the afternoon we welcomed pupils and staff from St Francis’ Catholic Primary, Oakhyrst Grange and Downsend schools, who enjoyed the show as much as we did. The pupils at Oakhyrst Grange produced a wonderful display following their visit, which you can see below in the gallery.

This was an amazing event just before a week of activities taking place during British Science Week at Woldingham. We look forward to hosting more Royal Institution shows in the future.
