Assembly asks what we can do to be a “better ally” to the LGBTQ+ community

28 February 2022

LGBT+ History Month 2022 (February) was marked at Woldingham with a presentation at assembly on Thursday 10 February by Kiera and Lelia, put together with the help of fellow Sixth Formers.

They described LGBT+ History Month as the opportunity “to reflect on and appreciate people (…) who have been erased from history due to their lifestyle choices being taboo in mainstream culture”. The well-researched, wide-ranging presentation explored the issue from Egypt in 2400BC, to much more recent events, such as the Stonewall Riots in New York in 1969, also looking at ancient Greece and Rome, Asia, South America and the UK.

To conclude, Kiera and Lelia looked to the future with suggestions on what everyone can do to be a “better ally” and actively make the world a better place for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
