Great results - and great fun - on Year 8 sports tour

10 February 2022

Zia H and Isabella B, Year 8

On Friday 4 February, after a hearty lunch, Year 8 hockey and netball players set off for Reading, on our first sports tour with Woldingham.

Friday afternoon: Hockey v Leighton Park School

Our first matches were against Leighton Park School. All our teams won, which was amazing. The A team won 5-1 and both the B and C teams won 5-0! We were very pleased with these results. Player of the match for the A team was Emilia H, for the B team, Zia H, and for the C team, Suri H. Unsurprisingly there were lots of goal scorers in these three matches who also deserve a special mention: Alejandra G-N scored 5 goals and Lily M and Zia H each scored a hat trick.

After some hot dogs and cookies, kindly provided by our hosts, it was off to our hotel to settle in, and prepare for our weekend of sport. Rather tired, and very hungry, we had a pizza night in the hotel, after which it was off to bed for a good night’s sleep, ready for a busy Saturday ahead.

Saturday morning: Netball v Leighton Park School

Our first netball matches were also against Leighton Park School, which like Friday’s hockey were a clean sweep of wins. The A’s played very well and won 14-7. Player of the match was Amelia C for her very strong shooting. The B’s won 26-3, with player of the match Gracie H, who played a mix of positions. The C’s won 14-6, where the player of the match was Suri H for great play as Centre.

Saturday afternoon: Netball v Heathfield School

There was more great play at Heathfield in the afternoon. The A’s played some tremendous netball in a tough match against a mix of Heathfield’s U14 and U13 players, which we lost 9-18. Players of the match were Lily M for her attack, and Annabelle H for her defence. The B’s drew against the U13 A team, 11-11. Player of the match here was Florence S for her amazing shooting. The C’s won 10-6 and, once again, their player of the match was Suri H, for her attacking play.

After our matches we went out for an amazing dinner at Cosmo, which is an all-you-can-eat buffet, with a range of delicious meals. It was so much fun after a very enjoyable day.

Sunday morning: Hockey v St Mary’s, Ascot

Our final hockey matches of the tour were against St Mary’s, Ascot on Sunday morning. For the A team it was a tough but superb match, with a final score of 5-3 to St Mary’s. The player of the match was Annabelle H for the attackers and Amelia C for defenders. Our B team had a very successful match, winning 3-0 and player of the match was Orlagh M, who was an amazing defender. The C team dominated play throughout their excellent match. The final score was 4-0 to Woldingham. Congratulations to player of the match Lucy F, who scored two goals.

During our tour weekend all our teams performed amazingly and had some great results. We hope to carry on playing like this for the rest of the season. Thank you to Miss May, Miss Arch and Mr Ladd-Gibbon for such a great weekend of sport.
