West End production inspires Woldingham’s Symphony Orchestra

Miss Ruth Wang, Coordinator of Instrumental Music

Woldingham’s Symphony Orchestra has begun working on a selection of pieces from the award-winning movie The Prince of Egypt this term. To hear the music played live by professional musicians, and understand the story behind it, members of the orchestra went to see the musical version in London’s West End on Saturday 8 January.

The spectacular production re-imagines the classic DreamWorks Animation film for the stage, telling the timeless story of identity, dignity and the search for a better life in a new land. Our musicians were enthralled by the dramatic and uplifting music infused with Middle Eastern flavours, as well as the phenomenal choreography and visual effects. It was an inspirational afternoon and the students could not wait to get back to rehearsals in school.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform pieces from The Prince of Egypt in Woldingham’s Spring Concert on Tuesday 22 March.
