Work experience takes politics student Hannah to the House of Commons

Hannah, Upper Sixth

As a politics student, I was delighted to have the opportunity of some work experience at the House of Commons for Woldingham’s local MP, Claire Coutinho, during the half term break. My first experience was watching Prime Minister’s Questions live, which was very exciting to witness, after which I had the pleasure of meeting Claire. It was very interesting to get an insight into her work and I got involved with tasks such as looking at constituents’ queries and drafting the annual profile. I also enjoyed doing a speechwriting crash course written by Simon Lancaster, one of the world’s top speechwriters.

I really enjoyed the work experience as it helped broaden my knowledge of the working of government and gave me a great insight into the day-to-day life of people working in Parliament.
