‘Summer Nights’ light up November thanks to superb Sixth Form Production

12 November 2021

This week’s superb Sixth Form Production of Grease transported us across the Atlantic, back in time and brought the warmth of summer nights to Woldingham in November.

Pippa and Leila were brilliant as Sandy and Danny – as was every member of the cast. The Pink Ladies were in the pink, the T-Birds had boys’ movement and mannerisms off to a tee, and everyone nailed their character parts and brought laughter and joy to delighted audiences on Tuesday and Wednesday 9 and 10 November.

It was hard to believe that, due to COVID challenges, everyone involved in this joint production from the Drama and Music Departments only had seven weeks of rehearsals. It was outstanding in all aspects, music, singing, acting, choreography, dancing, set. Even the ‘set shifters’ were scene stealers – as was Woldingham’s very own Teen Angel, Fr Gerry.

Director of Drama, and Grease, Miss Stacey Williams was determined that “our COVID comeback would be something memorable and uplifting,” adding that “we just wanted to make people happy again”.  The near raising of the auditorium roof at the end of the performances was proof they had succeeded.
