Welcome supper celebrates Woldingham’s global community

Mrs Tania Carrilero, Head of EAL

On Monday 6 September we held the EAL (English as an additional language) supper in the Goddard Room to welcome new international students to the Woldingham community. The aim of the evening was for students across year groups to get to know each other but it was also a lovely, friendly environment in which to meet other members of staff such as the Heads of Year.

It was a joyful evening where students had a chance to share their first experiences and impressions of Woldingham. Above all, it was a celebration of the wide range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds that make Woldingham a truly global community. We look forward to these students making the most of their study experience in the UK, with support from everyone at Woldingham, but especially from our International Ribbon, Luba, who thoroughly enjoyed meeting them at the supper.

Joining the EAL supper was a truly wonderful experience for me. It brought back memories from Year 9, when I first came to England and was new to Woldingham. I enjoyed welcoming new girls and getting to know them. I hope that in the future we will have even more familial evenings and that they will become precious school memories too.
