Spirit of competition alive and well as Sports Day returns

Spirit of competition alive and well as Sports Day returns

2 July 2021

Mrs Caroline Treacy, Director of Sport

We were absolutely delighted to be able to celebrate Sports Day with the whole community on Wednesday 30 June. The sport on display was superb and everyone entered into the spirit of the day, cheering on teammates, peers and family members.

There were some exceptional performances across the year groups with students from all years competing for the Victrix Ludorum, awarded to the most successful athlete on Sports Day using the British Schools Athletics system.  Year 8 students dominated, with three tied for 3rd position, Lea (Stuart) , Imani (Duchesne) and Waishe (Digby) and Ela (Duchesne), finishing in 2nd place. Taking the crown as Victrix Ludorum, however, was Lower Sixth Former Eleisha (Duchesne), with fantastic performances in the 100m, hurdles and long jump.

The competition for winning House on Sports Day came down to the final races of the day, with the lead having changed constantly throughout the afternoon. Duchesne House once again came away victorious, having scooped the title in our last three Sports Days in 2017-2019.

Whilst school sport has suffered this year, House Sport has excelled and we were delighted on Thursday 1 July to present cups in assembly to Digby for House Cricket, Barat for House Tennis and Stuart for House Swimming.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing parents enjoying more Woldingham sports events in the autumn.
