Students enjoy their first taste of open water swimming

Open water swimming is fast becoming a popular sport in the UK, especially during lockdown with indoor pools being closed. The PE Department has been very excited to be able to offer Woldingham students the experience of open water swimming at Divers Cove in nearby Godstone.

Our first trip to this beautiful seven-acre reservoir on Thursday 10 June was thoroughly enjoyed by students, as Ruby and Amy describe below, and more afterschool open water swimming trips are already planned.

We were all raring to go as soon as we arrived at Divers Cove and got changed into our wetsuits, with tow floats, and colourful swim hats. The short walk to the lake made us really excited and after a few photos and a dip of the toes we were ready to swim.

There were some big fish and lots of tadpoles (and even a fake turtle that gave us a bit of a scare), the water was warm, clear and a lovely bluey green, the sun was shining and altogether it was a really fun time in a beautiful lake and a lovely way to end the day.
