Woldingham’s future medics and vet mentor those following in their footsteps

Miss Jamie Gallagher, Head of Chemistry

Before heading to university in September to further their career ambitions in medicine and veterinary science, Upper Sixth students Ria, Gemma and Emily have been giving back to the Woldingham community by offering help and advice to students in Years 10 to Lower Sixth also interested in studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary science at university.

Ria, who has an offer to study medicine at the University of Southampton, created a plethora of resources including example UCAT and BMAT revision timetables, book reviews, podcasts, websites, interview advice and information on the history of the NHS.

Gemma who also plans to study medicine, with an offer from University College London, spoke to Medical Society members in depth about writing personal statements, different teaching styles at different universities and how she prepared for her UCAT exam.

The University of Liverpool is Emily’s destination after Woldingham, where she will study veterinary science. Emily has been giving one-to-one support and advice to some of our younger students on how to gain work experience and the different types valuable to create an outstanding application.

We plan to continue working with these fantastic mentors as they finish their time here at Woldingham and head off to university.  We are always looking for people to support our current students through this process and would love to hear from you if are in a health-related career.

Huge congratulations to Ria, Gemma and Emily on their wonderful university offers, and a massive thank you!
