Digby House enjoys annual Mass and Feast

25 March 2021

Mr Tom Rattle, Head of Digby House

On Wednesday 24 March Digby House celebrated its Mass and Feast after school. We were very grateful to be able to do this in person rather than completely remotely, and managed to get a choir, Marden and Year 9 into the Chapel with suitable social distancing rules. Other year groups were able to enjoy the Mass in their own year group bubbles using a video link, which our brilliant school audio visual team set up for us. Due to current restrictions we weren’t able to have congregational singing, nor could we all come together as one for a meal, but Digby staff and students brought their customary irrepressible motivation and enthusiasm and enjoyed the evening to the full.

We are very grateful to Father Gerry for leading the service with his usual optimism and charisma, and to Director of Music Mr John Hargreaves for assembling a group of talented musicians and singers from amongst our House members. Keira, in Year 9, sang one of the psalms, beautifully and Olivia, in Year 11, played a wonderful piece, Massenet’s Meditation, on the violin. Year 7’s Suri and Cat, one of our Upper Sixth House Captains, gave readings.

After Mass we moved to Main House where the catering team had put on a sumptuous tea of cake, sandwiches and lemonade. We are all looking forward very much to being allowed to come together as a full House with year groups mixing, and hope this comes soon.
