An essay on the economics of tulips wins Livvy a scholarship

27 January 2021

An extremely interesting economics essay on the tulip mania of the Dutch Golden Age by Year 8 student Livvy has been recognised as one of the highest calibre entries in the Immerse Education 2021 competition.

Livvy entered the competition during the Christmas holidays and had to do all her research online due to COVID-19 restrictions.  She explained why she chose to write her essay on economics, a subject that she doesn’t yet study at Woldingham: “With both my parents having studied economics at university, it gets discussed quite frequently at home. I’ve found that I enjoy the subject and wanted to learn more about it, and this was a great opportunity to do so”.

Livvy won the offer of a partial scholarship to the economics summer school course running at Cambridge University this summer. You can read her excellent essay here.
