Almost 4,000km covered for St Catherine’s Hospice

Woldingham’s PE department loves a challenge! Our latest one stemmed from Mrs Wratten who came up with the idea of giving her young daughter the challenge of running or walking 50km in May. We then decided to roll this challenge out to the whole school community, thinking that it could give some people the motivation to push themselves to be more active than they otherwise might be (particularly given how warm it has been in the UK recently).  The fact that we could also use this to raise some money for a fantastic cause was a huge bonus!  St Catherine’s Hospice, in nearby Crawley, has been greatly affected by the current pandemic and we were delighted to be able to support them.

Sixty members of the Woldingham community signed up to run or walk 50km in May. Together we covered a distance of just over 3,880km, which equates to travelling to our sister Sacred Heart schools in Valencia, Spain – and back again!

Some of our Year 7s excelled themselves, with Lea, Livvy and Laila each running 75km, while Ella in Year 9 almost hit 100km!  Mr Nunes and Mrs Norman both passed the 100km mark, while Ms Rawlinson exceeded 200km and Miss Ward topped 250km!!  Everyone’s achievements have been phenomenal and we are thrilled to have raised almost £2,000 to date. This has put us in the top 5% of fundraisers for May on the JustGiving website.  We are delighted with the total and hope that it will continue to grow. If you are able to support us please visit our JustGiving page.
