Book club members attend Southern Schools Book Award ceremony

4 March 2020

Mollie and Laila, Year 7

On Friday 28 February, members of our Book Club went to the Southern Schools Book Award ceremony at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill.

We started reading the five shortlisted books in September and met each week to talk about them. The shortlist consisted of: ‘Don’t Stop Thinking about Tomorrow’ by Siobhan Curham, ‘Moonrise’ by Sarah Crossan (who sadly could not attend the ceremony), ‘The Island’ by M.A Bennett, ‘Me Mam. Me Dad. Me’ by Malcolm Duffy and ‘The Survival Game’ by Nicky Singer.

We all voted for our favourite book, which was ‘The Island’, and were thrilled when it was announced as the winner!

Each student who attended the presentation ceremony received a book token, so we could buy a book by one of the shortlisted authors and get it signed. We also had chance to talk to the authors. It was a really good evening.
