Cross country and other sporting successes kick off new year

30 January 2020

It has been a cold but busy January for sport at Woldingham. Our cross country runners did extremely well at the Surrey Schools competition. Charlotte Alexander won the Senior Girls race by a margin of more than 30 seconds and she, Maisie Gibbins and Amie Gould all qualified for the next round.

When the hockey pitches haven’t been frozen, the girls have enjoyed fixtures with Streatham and Clapham High at U12, U13 and Senior level. The U13Bs played brilliantly in their match, winning 4-2. The B team also enjoyed their Surrey Hockey Plate competition at Charterhouse, though it wasn’t to be Woldingham’s year. In other fixtures there have been wins over Old Palace, Thomas’ Clapham and Croydon High. The U12A team also went to the Surrey Cup where they enjoyed wins over City of London Freemen's, Reigate Grammar and Tormead.

In netball the U15 and Senior teams made a great start to 2020 in their fixtures against KCS Wimbledon. The 1st VII had a brilliant game which resulted in a 24-24 draw, while the rest of the teams all came away with wins. The 2nd and 3rd VII have also notched up wins over Kent College and Royal Russell.

In swimming the girls have had a few galas and are awaiting the final results from the Senior District Gala, held at Caterham, with more fixtures still to come. In individual swimming news, Maddie Ladell set new PBs at the Surrey meet last weekend, as well as a qualifying time for the South East meet later this year.
