Sixth Form Open Evening

Sixth Form Open Evening

15 October 2019

On Thursday 10 October, students in Year 11 and their families were warmly welcomed to the Sixth Form Open Evening. This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to gain insight into the exciting curriculums available to them at A Level and, with 27 subjects on offer at Woldingham, there was no shortage of rooms to visit! The evening began with a subject fair allowing the students to visit a wide range of departments across the school site. In each department, subject teachers were on hand to discuss their specifications and answer questions about content, skills and assessment. They were joined by current Lower Sixth students who shared their experiences of the subject at A Level and provided encouragement and reassurance to those considering their options.

As a reminder of life at Woldingham beyond the academics, cookies awaited at Berwick House throughout the evening, along with a tour of the boarding facilities and common rooms where day students and boarders relax together during free periods and after school.

The evening ended with talks from Mrs Hutchinson, Headmistress, Head of Sixth Form Mr Abbott and Deputy Head Girl Lily who spoke eloquently about her Sixth Form experiences at Woldingham, noting in particular the wide range of freedoms and the excellent pastoral care and academic support given to each and every student. While only the first step in a programme to help students choose their A Level options, the evening prompted thought-provoking and meaningful discussions between students and staff that will continue until their options are made early in the spring term.
