Music Scholars Shine

11 October 2019

On Tuesday 8 October we welcomed our newest music scholars, Sophie, Dido, Jess and Isabel, to the Woldingham stage and they and our established scholars treated us to a lovely evening of music.

Solos on piano, violin, flute, trombone, tenor horn, guitar, clarinet and cello took us back and forth in time as we listened to a programme that included pieces by Vivaldi, Bach and Beethoven and a number of twentieth century compositions, among them the theme music to two films, Forrest Gump (Silvestri) and The Mission (Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe).

As Director of Music Mr Hargreaves reminded everyone at the end of the evening, this was a great opportunity for the girls to try out new and difficult pieces that, to date, they have been practising in rehearsal rooms or at home. Playing in front of a live audience is a very different experience and he congratulated all the girls on their performances.  He also thanked Miss Wang for her piano accompaniment and her coordination of the evening.
