Year 7 Day of Reflection

Year 7 Day of Reflection

27 September 2019

On Tuesday 24 September, Year 7 travelled to Aylesford Priory in Kent for a Day of Reflection, led by the Southwark Youth Services Team.  The theme for the day was our Sacred Heart Goal for this academic year, Social Awareness.  The students were encouraged to work in groups, as we are all interdependent and need to work closely with one another and be aware of our strengths and weaknesses.  We took time to become more aware of the needs of the worldwide community to which we belong and how we can learn to address injustice, conflict resolution and environmental issues by working with others and becoming ‘agents of change’.

During this academic year we have the opportunity to help others by fundraising for our House charities and by giving our personal time as volunteers to serve others, especially those who need us most.  As Nelson Mandela once remarked, ‘Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. You can be that great generation, let your greatness blossom.’  The students were given a card printed with the Mandela quote, on the back of which they wrote their own pledge of what they hope to achieve during this academic year which will make a difference to our school community and to our planet.

The day concluded with the celebration of Mass, which was prepared by the students, and we returned to school feeling optimistic that we can all make a difference now and in the future.
