Students brave the elements on Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expeditions

21 March 2019

On Saturday 16 March, 49 Year 9 students set off on their Bronze practice expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Walking the North Downs on Saturday and Sunday, they determinedly endured heavy winds, rain, hail, sunshine and lots of mud! They camped overnight, cooking for themselves, and worked as a team to navigate the footpaths taking them on a circular route from Reigate Hill. They have all passed this stage of their training and are sincerely hoping for better weather in June for their assessed expedition.

The same weekend, Lower Sixth students also had two nights camping and walking for the first stage of their Gold Award training, and are looking forward to some wilder country for their expeditions later in the year.
