Music Scholars' Concert

Music Scholars' Concert

13 March 2019

Monday's Scholars’ Concert was, as always, a treat - and included a world premiere! This was a beautiful piece played on piano and composed by Year 7’s Clemmie. The programme included pieces by other living composers, Ian Clarke, James Rae and Mike Cornick, but also took us back in time, through Gershwin and Prokofiev, to Mozart, Vivaldi and Purcell.

A couple of our scholars were, sadly, unable to perform through illness and injury and we were rather concerned when Olivia, Year 11, took to the stage with a large box of tissues. Fortunately, our fears were unfounded as it turned out that these were a prop for her very entertaining performance of Adelaide’s Lament, from Guys and Dolls.

As well as the talents of our scholars being on display, many girls were accompanied beautifully on piano by Miss Katie Wong, of the Music department.  Following a competitive audition, Katie has won a place on The Solti Peretti Repetiteur’s Masterclasses in April. This highly prestigious course, at the Georg Solti Accademia in Venice, is offered to just six outstanding pianists each year. If you missed Monday’s concert, Katie, our scholars and many other students will be taking to the stage again next week for our Spring Concert: Thursday 21 March at 7.00pm.
