UK Mathematics Trust Challenges

3 December 2018

November saw Sixth Formers take part in two nationwide Maths competitions, with the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Individual Challenge in the early part of the month and the Senior Team Challenge in its last week.

The UKMT Senior Individual Challenge is full of lively, intriguing questions. Woldingham achieved excellent results, with half of our entrants receiving certificates. Of these there were many Gold Certificates, which are only awarded to the top 6% of entrants nationwide, and seven students reached the ‘Kangaroo’ round for which only 3% qualify. The students were very pleased with their achievements and special congratulations go to our ‘Kangaroo’ qualifiers, Miranda, Sarah, Luna, Carol, Ediss, Tracy and Yunxi.

A very enthusiastic team of students travelled to Ravens Wood School to participate in the UKMT Senior Team Challenge, which was exciting, fast paced and full of fiendishly difficult problem solving activities. Twenty five teams from schools all over the South East took part and Woldingham finished 11th in a very competitive field. The students were pleased to be given the opportunity to compete in an event of this calibre. Huge congratulations to the girls involved, Tracy, Gloria, Alina and Grace.
