Miss Siobhan Campbell, Head of Art
On Tuesday 23 June, we were delighted to welcome artist, and alumna, Eleanor Watson, back to Woldingham to lead an inspiring painting workshop for our Lower Sixth A Level Art students.
Eleanor shared her distinctive artistic approach, which she describes as a romantic form of escapism. Her paintings capture fleeting moments in time, encouraging viewers to appreciate the beauty that often passes unnoticed throughout the day.
During the workshop, students explored the use of complementary colours. They began by creating a monochromatic painting and then developed their understanding of colour mixing, learning how to create subtle tertiary tones to achieve greater depth and atmosphere in their work.
Students were also encouraged to paint more loosely and expressively, focusing on capturing the energy and spontaneity of a snapshot moment rather than concentrating on fine detail. The workshop provided valuable insight into contemporary painting techniques and inspired students to experiment with a more confident and intuitive approach to their own practice.
We are very grateful to Eleanor for sharing her expertise and creative vision with our students.
