Year 7s Alice, Amelia, Fadekewa and Millie were keen to find out more about the Sports Department’s newest member of staff, Miss Magee, who joined Woldingham in February. Miss Magee captained Northern Ireland U21s in the 2017 Netball Youth World Cup before representing the senior Northern Ireland team in the 2019 World Cup and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
What’s been your favourite thing about sport since joining Woldingham?
The thing I love most about sport at Woldingham is that everyone shows up to everything and nothing is ever too much or too hard.
What inspired you to join Woldingham?
I also went to an all-girls Catholic school, so I have a soft spot for them. But also the potential that the students have - and everything that Miss Leach told me about how special this school is.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
Every day is very different. I train every morning at 5.00am, mostly by myself because my team is back home in Northern Ireland. After training, I come to work and teach, and then I’ll either do a skills session in the evening or rehab.
What part of the job don’t students see?
Probably the pressure of sorting things out when someone drops out of a Saturday morning match on a Friday evening.
What inspired you to choose a career in sport?
I sort of fell into the job. I finished university and was signed by a netball team, which worked well alongside doing a teaching degree. I’ve always been super sporty so I knew this would be a career I would love.
How do you feel coming into school every day and seeing the students?
I love coming to school. Even if I’m a little down or tired, someone will make me laugh, so I know I will enjoy something about the day.
