Mrs Catherine Abbot, Head of Business
In the first week of this term, five Lower Sixth students from the Young Enterprise company ReKnitted took part in the first stage of the competitive element of the Young Enterprise programme, The Surrey Showcase. Carys, Ella, Laura, Mimi and Zia competed against seven other schools from across the Surrey region in what proved to be an exciting and rewarding experience.
Since founding ReKnitted in October, the 14 students involved have built an impressive enterprise grounded in teamwork, determination and social responsibility. Their product, ReKnitted branded scarves made from 100% recycled PET, reflects a clear commitment to environmental responsibility.
As part of the competition, the team produced a creatively designed display stand to showcase their product, participated in an interview, and delivered a presentation to both a panel of judges and the wider audience. In a pressured environment, the students remained professional and composed in every aspect of the event, representing their company – and Woldingham - exceptionally well.
Although ReKnitted will not progress to the next stage of the competition, the team achieved an impressive success by winning the award for Best Marketing for the company’s strong branding strategy, including the creation of a website and their effective use of social media to communicate their brand, create identity and build awareness. This achievement adds to ReKnitted’s growing list of successes, which includes runner-up for Best Slogan.
Looking ahead, ReKnitted is continuing to expand its product range and the company will be launching two new t-shirts, which have been designed by the students. This marks an exciting next step for The ReKnitted team as they continue to grow and develop their brand.
