Woldingham marks the season of Lent by reflecting on ‘Big Questions’ and taking part in a sponsored walk in aid of the Cardinal Hume Centre

It has been a busy Lent at Woldingham, with various opportunities for staff and students to mark this time of preparation for the Feast of Easter and to nurture their faith and inner lives.

Among the highlights of the last five weeks was the ‘Big Question’, where students were invited to answer questions such as ‘What am I most grateful for?’ and ‘What is the most important thing in friendship?’ Hundreds of students visited the Chaplaincy Office to take part and their answers - provided on sticky notes - made for very reflective reading.

Another highlight was, of course, our annual sponsored walk in aid of the Cardinal Hume Centre, which cares for London’s homeless. On a delightful, mostly sunny, afternoon, year group by year group, the whole school walked more than three miles on footpaths in and around Marden Park. To date, the walk has raised nearly £2,000 in support of this very worthy cause. A couple of days later we had a ‘frugal lunch’, with the money saved also being donated to the Centre.

Each week, there was also the opportunity for staff and students to follow the story of what led up to Christ’s passion and death by watching the highly acclaimed Netflix drama The Chosen and also to pray the Stations of the Cross, tracing the beautiful stations in the school grounds.
