An evening of entirely student-led entertainment brought plenty of fun and lightness to the Woldingham stage, counterbalanced with a little darkness, as we might expect from our performers, whose wide-ranging talents never fail to impress.
The first half comprised a specially-adapted performance of Mary Poppins, featuring our wonderful Key Stage 3 Drama Club and directed by Drama and Dance Ribbons, Immy and Ottie, with the help of Music Ribbon Norien and drama scholar Mimi and drama ambassador Grace. The lead roles were inhabited seamlessly by different actors in different scenes and this entertaining romp through a much-loved musical concluded with everyone taking part in a well-choreographed, slick and rousing rendition of Step In Time.
Two other musical delights topped and tailed the second half of the evening, which featured our drama and performing arts scholars, in the shape of excerpts from Annie, directed by Lexi and Athena, and Matilda, directed by Ignatia and Evie. In between these the audience was entertained by an amusing extract from Gut Girls, directed by Florence and Amy, set in the gutting sheds of a slaughterhouse in Victorian London, and a bleaker but powerful abridged performance of Blood Brothers, an ultimately tragic tale of twins separated at birth, which was directed by Orlagh.
All the hard work – as well as the talent – that clearly went into this fabulous evening of entertainment paid off handsomely. Bravo!
