Upper Sixth are already holding an excellent set of university offers, with plenty more to come

Mrs Janet Travis, Director of Higher Education and Careers

Our Upper Sixth students’ university applications are now in, for both UK and overseas institutions, and many excellent offers from top universities have been quick to arrive, with 24 students having received all their UCAS offers. However, it’s still early days in the process and, especially with a number of universities well known for taking their time to make decisions, many more offers are yet to come.

This year, Bristol, Leeds and Newcastle have received the most UCAS applications from Woldingham students, almost 80% of which were to Russell Group universities, while a number have applied to universities further afield - in the USA, Australia, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Spain and Poland.

Our students’ wonderfully broad range of talents is reflected in their choice of university courses. Rather than gravitating to a small number of popular subjects, Woldingham students are encouraged to explore their interests and strengths and, together with their tutors and the higher education team, they find fantastic courses that are right for them This year, the courses our Upper Sixth have applied for include economics, computer science, fine art, English, medicine, games design, engineering, law, environmental science, marketing, philosophy, sport science, psychology, business and neuroscience.

Many students have been invited to offer holder days, which we recommend students attend to help them decide which universities to accept as their firm and insurance choices. We also advise students holding all five university offers not to rush into replying to confirm their first and insurance places; no firm decisions should be made until their performance in the upcoming mock exams has been reviewed and discussed.

Well done to all our Upper Sixth students on their hard work on their applications. We await further offers with great interest and excitement.
