Mrs Tania Carrilero, Director of Coaching
In January, we were delighted to host Coach-Lite for Parents, an online introduction to coaching for parents across all year groups. Building on Woldingham’s well-established coaching programme, which has been embedded in teaching and learning since 2022, the session aimed to extend coach-like skills beyond the classroom and into the home.
The interactive 90-minute workshop, led by me and Head of Wellbeing Mr Sharkey, who is an advanced coach, introduced parents to the foundations of coaching and explored how adopting a coach-like approach can support young women’s independence, confidence, and problem-solving skills. Parents took part in practical activities focused on two core tools: improving listening skills and asking effective, non-judgemental questions. These skills help foster more meaningful conversations and encourage students to reflect, take ownership, and find their own solutions.
The session also provided insight into Woldingham’s whole-school coaching vision and offered parents the opportunity to practise foundation coaching skills and ask questions about how to better manage conversations at home.
Feedback from parents was extremely positive and we are planning another online session in the second half of term to ensure as many parents as possible have the opportunity to participate. We look forward to continuing to develop our coaching partnership with families.
