Woldingham’s carol service fills Westminster Cathedral with beautiful music in celebration of Christmas

8 December 2025

On Tuesday 2 December, more than 1,000 members of the Woldingham community gathered in the magnificent setting of Westminster Cathedral to celebrate Christmas in readings, carols, music and prayer.

The congregation listened to the story of Christmas, told through readings from Waishe, Head Girl, Mrs Baillie, Ava, Year 9, Serena, Year 7, Lana, Upper Sixth, Liv, Sacred Heart Ribbon and Miss Niekirk, while our musicians and choirs, and the choir from St Francis’ Catholic Primary School, Caterham, filled the cathedral with beautiful music, which included The Lamb by Elizabeth Posten, Angels’ Carol and What Sweeter Music by John Rutter, and Carol of the Bells by Mykola Leontovych. Year 11 music scholar Catherine sang a lovely solo first verse of the entrance hymn Once in Royal David’s City and Upper Sixth Formers Lilico and Sophie led the singing of The Prayer of the Faithful

The carol service concluded with Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and a retiring collection for Woldingham’s whole school charity the Laini Saba School in Kenya.
