Open evening offers Year 11 students further insights into the exciting opportunities awaiting them in Sixth Form

Mr Phil Abbott, Head of Sixth Form

‘All the benefits of continuity, of being seen and heard, known and nurtured, but anything but business as usual’ was the one key message I asked students and parents to take away about the Sixth Form after our open evening on Tuesday 7 October. Hosting the event in our state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre and Library, as it celebrates its first birthday, was a pretty good indicator of just how different and exciting their future at Woldingham will be.

Students and parents heard from the passionate subject specialists teaching our 25 A Levels, as well as learning more about our outstanding extra- and super-curricular opportunities, including the Sophia programme, unique to Woldingham, that develops students’ critical thinking, reasoning and intellect. In a world where ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’ spread at alarming speed though social media, such an education has never been more important.

There was a real ‘fizz’ about the evening; our Year 11 students and prospective applicants from other schools were clearly excited to be thinking about the next step of their academic journey, as well as better understand how Woldingham will help them develop the skills they need to succeed, not just in public examinations but also in their personal and professional lives, through our distinctive FutureProof programme, designed to develop the uniquely human skills that will see our students thrive in a world of AI.
