Woldingham girls achieve excellent A Level results and secure 80% of first choice places at top universities in the UK and overseas

14 August 2025

Many congratulations to our Upper Sixth girls who are today celebrating an excellent set of A Level results, winning them places at top universities in the UK and overseas. With subjects ranging from engineering, politics, economics and architecture to psychology, ancient history and archaeology, marine biology and fine art, 80% of students were delighted to be accepted at their first choice university. We are delighted that nearly half of all grades awarded were A*/A and 80% of grades were A*-B, with a quarter of our Upper Sixth achieving a clean sweep of A* and A grades.

Several of our Ribbons team were among those who achieved a clean sweep of A*/A grades. Andrea is heading to study Biomedical Engineering at Imperial and Hattie is bound for Durham to study Natural Sciences. Our Deputy Head Girl team all achieved their first choice university; Anjali will study English and Modern History at St Andrews, Poppy heads to Edinburgh to study Theology and Feranmi will study Modern Languages with Business and Management at Manchester. Head Girl Onome is excited to be heading to Loughborough to study PPE.

The most popular universities for this year’s departing Upper Sixth are Exeter, Newcastle, UCL and Durham for courses including Politics and International Relations, Nutrition and Medical Sciences, Economics, Sociology, Geography and Experimental Linguistics. A different type of language studies will see Frieda read English and German at Pembroke College, Oxford.

We are also celebrating success for students choosing to study overseas as Chloe heads to St George’s, Grenada with a scholarship to study medicine and Keira to Bocconi University in Milan to study business.

The skill, dedication and hard work of our art students has paid off handsomely, with A*/A across the board for A Level Art. Mya and Florence will study fine art at Newcastle, while Aubrey and Kira head to UAL. Film studies is a popular next step - at Manchester (with Spanish) for Manoli and Sussex for Mia, while Charlotte has chosen specialist college BIMM to study filmmaking.

Phil Abbott, Head of Sixth Form, said “We’re delighted with the results of our students, who have worked tirelessly, yet cheerfully, to achieve such tremendous results across a diverse range of subjects. There is no doubt that the specialised facilities in our new Sixth Form Centre have provided the final piece of the jigsaw that has empowered them to unleash their full potential. We wish them every success as they embark on the next stage of their journey.”

Sue Baillie, Head commented, “I am absolutely thrilled by today’s A Level results and I’m particularly delighted so many of the girls have been accepted at their first or second choice university. They have shown maturity, dedication and confidence throughout their Upper Sixth year and their achievements reflect this. They have won places to study a fantastically broad range of subjects which epitomise the strengths and opportunities we offer across STEM, humanities and the creative arts at Woldingham. Huge congratulations to all our leavers, who depart with our very best wishes, leaving as confident, courageous and compassionate young women.”
