Mr Ollie Marsh, Head of WSGS
It’s been a fantastic year for the Woldingham School Golf Society (WSGS), with enthusiasm for the sport growing across the school and exciting developments both on-site and off.
One of the biggest successes has been the introduction of free weekly lunchtime golf sessions held at school. Open to all students, these sessions have proved incredibly popular and will return in the autumn term, every Tuesday lunchtime. With eight dedicated bays and all equipment provided, it’s a brilliant opportunity for students to try golf in a relaxed and fun environment.
For those looking to take their game further, our thriving WSGS Development Squad has continued its weekly visits to Tandridge Golf Club on Thursday afternoons. The squad has been making the most of the club’s impressive new upgraded facilities, from a state-of-the-art fitting studio with TrackMan technology to a top-quality driving range, short game area, and dedicated putting surface, as well as a practice hole. These facilities have helped all the students make some incredible improvements to their game over the year.
A particular highlight has been the support from Tandridge’s professional coaching team, with two coaches on hand at every session, allowing for tailored one-on-one instruction. Some students also had the chance to head out onto the course with a pro, putting their practice into action on a UK & Ireland top 100 course.
Meanwhile, the WSGS Competition Squad, comprising Phoebe, Sienna, Claire and Tiffany, represented the school brilliantly throughout the summer term. The students competed in four fixtures at prestigious clubs including Farnham, Tandridge, Windlesham and Fulwell. Thanks to the warm weather, each course was in superb condition and provided an excellent test of skill and determination for our players. Huge congratulations to Tiffany, who came first in the Stapleford competition at Fulwell to finish off the season, competing against more than 60 players, both boys and girls, most of whom were much older than her.
It’s been a year of growth, enjoyment and achievement, and WSGS looks set to continue to go from strength to strength. Whether you’re a beginner curious to try something new, or an experienced player aiming to sharpen your skills, there’s never been a better time for Woldingham students to get involved.
