On Friday 23 May, Woldingham celebrated another year of sporting achievement, commitment and passion with our annual Sports Dinner and Marden Sports Awards. Both events were made even more special thanks to our guest speaker Marlie Packer, captain of the England Women’s Rugby team and a World Cup winner.
Marlie shared powerful insights into the rise and development of women’s sport, highlighting the increasing opportunities now available for girls and young women in all areas of sport. Marlie also spoke candidly about the many challenges she has faced throughout her journey and the resilience it has taken to reach the top of her game. One of her key messages to students was the importance of education — emphasising how vital it is to have a strong foundation, whether to support a career in sport or to keep sport as a lifelong passion.
It was abundantly clear how much Marlie enjoyed presenting this year’s awards to Woldingham’s young generation of sportswomen for their achievements, both as individuals and as teams. Zoe T in Year 9 was awarded Sportswoman of the Year - Senior, with Tife O in Year 8 our Sportwoman of the Year - Junior. Congratulations to both on their many accomplishments this year, as well as to the members of our U13A netball team, who were named as Team of the Year. Alongside sporting achievements, the awards to our soon-to-depart Upper Sixth students - Poppy, Amie, Anna, Oksana and Hattie also recognised their contribution to sport at Woldingham during their time at school, for which we are very grateful.
