Lower Sixth receive expert advice and support at Higher Education Conference

19 June 2025

Mrs Janet Travis, Head of Higher Education and Careers

Among the guests at our recent Lower Sixth Higher Education Conference were alumnae Lara, Daisy, Nina, Nicole, Katie and Canaan (pictured), who ably answered students’ questions on a range of topics, including about university accommodation and clubs and societies, how to make the most of the university experience, and how to get support from staff. Their collective current – or recent – studies encompassed natural sciences, history, physics, performing arts, psychology, sport, exercise and health sciences, and forensic science, at universities including King’s College London, Durham and Edinburgh.

Students also enjoyed hearing from Eloise (Class of 2023), who completed a gap year in Thailand, where she set up a health clinic in association with Médecins sans Frontières, before working in childcare in Vietnam - quite the adventure!

During the course of the conference, our Lower Sixth began the process of completing their UCAS applications, along with writing initial drafts of the ‘dreaded’ personal statement. A wide range of expert speakers provided information on the UCAS process, degree apprenticeships, overseas applications and student finance. Guest presenters included representatives from the University of Surrey and The University Guys, who specialise in applications for English speaking undergraduate courses in other countries.

The following week, we were delighted that many parents of Lower Sixth students were able to join our webinar designed to provide them with detailed guidance about the higher education application process.
