Mrs Sarah Lane, Head of Year 11 (Acting)
On Friday 2 May, Year 11 students marked the end of their timetabled lessons with joyful enthusiasm and creativity. In true Woldingham tradition, students arrived at school in an array of fabulous fancy dress costumes, transforming Woldingham into a riot of colour. From a small army of orange Loraxes to purple Minions, Bananas in Pyjamas, Mario and Luigi — and even a group of Elvi — each outfit was more imaginative than the last and set the scene for a fun-filled morning.
After time spent in tutor groups, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy and excitement as we gathered in the auditorium for a final, poignant, Year 11 assembly. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as we enjoyed a collection of photos from students’ time at Woldingham, capturing moments big and small from across the years — full of laughter, nostalgia, and pride. We revisited memories from the past five years — from the unique experience of starting secondary school during the COVID-19 pandemic and navigating lessons in masks, to the many milestones, friendships, and achievements along the way.
After a short break, the fun continued with a whole-year scavenger hunt. Teams roamed the school grounds, solving clues and capturing photo evidence along the way. The sunshine added to the festive spirit, and the sound of laughter echoed around the campus. The day concluded with a delicious BBQ picnic lunch. Sitting together in the sunshine, enjoying good food and good company, was the perfect way to round off the celebration.
It was a day full of joy, laughter, and heartfelt reflection — a truly fitting way to mark this important moment in Year 11’s school lives. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and wish them the very best as they now focus on their GCSE exams. We look forward to welcoming them back in September for the next exciting stage of their Woldingham journey.
