In recent weeks, Woldingham singers have won multiple awards at the Redhill and Reigate Festival, our Pro Corda-winning Millennium Trio played at a special concert in London, while Year 8 students experienced their music curriculum brought to life on stage at a performance of Hamilton, at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Redhill and Reigate Festival

Between them, Year 8s Antonina M, Maya T and Sophia T won a magnificent five categories at the Redhill and Reigate Festival, as a trio and as soloists.

  • Classical Solo (Girls 11-12) – Maya – Spring Sorrow
  • Modern Musical Theatre & Popular Song Solo (Girls 11-12) – Sophia – When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2
  • Duet or Trio (12-18) – Antonina, Maya & Sophia – A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman
  • Legit Musical Theatre Solo (Boys & Girls 13-14) – Antonina – If I Loved You from Carousel
  • Modern Musical Theatre & Popular Song Solo (Girls 13-14) – Antonina – My Grand Plan from Lightning Thief

The students, all of whom have been awarded a music scholarship or exhibition for Year 9, were accompanied on piano by Miss Wang (pictured with the trio). All three had worked hard on their pieces with singing teacher Miss McLean, who was delighted with their wonderful results.

The Pro Corda Festival Concert

On Friday 10 May, in the stunning setting of Drapers’ Hall, London, Cherry, Isabel and Lilico - The Millennium Trio – gave a virtuoso performance of Martinu’s Sonata for Flute Violin and Piano H.254, the piece that won them top honours at this year’s Pro Corda Festival in March.

Among the audience, were family, friends, Pro Corda finalists the Zheng Quartet (Minerva, Shaki, Gloria and Freya), new Director of Music Mr Hammond-Hall, and Assistant Head of Music Ms Ives, who has been instrumental in Woldingham winning Pro Corda’s Founder’s Trophy for the school where the judges found chamber music most alive and thriving.

We are delighted that the 2025 Pro Corda Festival final will be held at Woldingham and that Ms Ives has been invited to become a coach on courses run by Pro Corda during school holidays.
