Monday, 05 Dec 2011

Our Performing Arts facility is one of Woldingham’s greatest assets with every girl having opportunities to explore and excel. Abby McGovern, in particular, is a most hardworking and talented Drama Scholar in Year 8 and is involved in an exhausting roster of thespian activities - both in and out of school - having trodden the boards and danced from a young age. A very supportive student, Abby had the lead role in Honk! this year, in which she gave a most enchanting performance as the Ugly Duckling and was one of the highlights of the Drama Showcase on Prize Day when she, with six other members of the cast performed one of the scenes from the show to rapturous applause. She is an accomplished dancer and now a mid-associate at the Royal Ballet School. Abbey most recently had a part in the final Harry Potter film and described her experience as ‘magical and captivating’.

She can boast having been in 162 West End performances, including parts in Oliver alongside Rowan Atkinson, Cinderella at the Royal Opera House and most recently, Billy Elliot which she recounted as ‘phenomenal’, despite the nerve-racking experience of running off and on stage for the 30-second change from pink to white tutus.
