Over a sunny March weekend, a group of L6 Geographers set off for a field trip to Hampshire and Dorset. Their first encounter with this fascinating coastline was at Barton-on-Sea, where they considered the various erosional and depositional processes taking place as well as management strategies.
Travelling west, they took the chain-ferry from Sandbanks to Studland Bay where they were able to observe a world-class dune ecosystem, about which they had to research and answer questions. They also took readings and data at the source of the River Wey, Church Lane and Watery Lane, all of which will complete their field work going towards their AS skills paper. Their final visit was to Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic coast, where they were able to spot a range of geographical features from the cliff top, not to mention the spectacular views. Such trips are invaluable in helping to bring the girls’ class work to life.
