Woldingham skiers make the most of the snow and slopes in Italy

Students in Years 8 to Lower Sixth had a brilliant time on and off the ski slopes of Bormio, Italy in the Easter holidays, as Leelee and Maia describe below. The Bormio Ski School, whose instructors taught our students, produced a great video of them in action – in all types of weather - which you can watch here.

We spent our week in Bormio with seven teachers, who guided us through the trip, alongside lots of friends. On arrival, we immediately went to the ski rental shop to be measured for our boots, poles and skis.

The next day, we put on our boots and headed up the slopes. We were put into groups, based on our level of skiing ability, from beginners to advanced, and met our instructors. We joined the upper intermediate group, and soon we started skiing. Bormio has a vast range of slopes, catering to different abilities, as well as off piste runs and fun jumps. We were coached on technique, as well as being challenged through jumps and twists. Our instructor, Filippo, made it a very enjoyable experience. The snow was excellent. On some of the days we had sun and bright blue sky, however, we also experienced deep powder and navigating through low visibility. The scenery was a highlight, with lots of wildlife and views over different valleys.

Most evenings we enjoyed activities including ice skating, karaoke, quiz night, pizza night and visiting the town. We loved exploring the town, getting fresh gelato, and practising our Italian! It was an incredible experience and we would love to go on another ski trip.
