The grandeur of Main House is the home to girls in Years 9 – 11. Year 9 move into the splendid, recently refurbished accommodation in the old Mansion House and share bedrooms of between 3 – 8 students. In Years 10 and 11, girls currently benefit from single study bedrooms as they prepare for their GCSE examinations. When rooms are available, Day girls also have the benefit of sharing the amenities within the Boarding area. Each year group also has a Common Room where girls go to socialise, relax or watch TV or a DVD.

Part of developing this increased independence is that Boarders in Main House are given the opportunity to go on local exeats at the weekend where they travel unsupervised, but with a small group of friends, to local towns.

Moving up to Main House marks the beginning of life in the Senior part of the school as girls begin to make important choices about their future studies and as they prepare for their GCSE examinations. Main House students are expected to adopt a mature attitude to their studies, to work hard, challenge themselves and to take much more personal responsibility for their progress and development, guided and supported by the Pastoral and Academic staff. They are also encouraged to broaden their individual interests, talents and skills by taking part in one of the many activities on offer in the extra-curricular programme. As members of the senior part of the school, girls are also encouraged to take on positions of responsibility and to enjoy the rewards of making a meaningful contribution to the school community, whether by becoming a member of their Year Forum, or representing their year group on the School or Catering Committees.
