Year 7 PSHE Talk - Nutrition

Year 7 PSHE Talk - Nutrition

On Tuesday 6th November Kieran Smith, the catering manager and Padraig Ahern the deputy catering manager gave a talk to the Year 7’s on nutrition and Healthy Eating.  They had spent a lot of time preparing a fantastic array of nutritious food to display the different food groups. The girls seemed to be amazed that all the food on display was from our very own school kitchens!

Information was given on the main food groups as well as the top tips for healthy eating, including the all important 5 a day.  (If you don’t know what that is maybe you should have come to the talk!)

It was great to see so many hands going up to answer questions as well as the girl’s putting their brains to work when they were asked to break down meals into the different food groups.

The feedback from the Year 7’s has been very positive – here are a few examples:

“I think the talk was very interesting and I think it made us think more about what we eat. Everybody obviously was interested because they were all putting up their hands. I think it would be a good idea for you to do it to future Year 7’s so they can be just as healthy as us.” Frankie Linsley 7BA

“I think that lots of people learned lots of things to do with healthy eating, I also enjoyed it and I think that you should do this to all the yr 7s. The talk was quite interesting with all the facts. I am also taking on board what they said about eating 5 a day and drinking lots of water! I think they did a very good job!” Serena Beck 7A

I think that the image of the fat they will find in a Kit Kat will stay with the girls for a long time.

The aim of the talk was to encourage the girls to take a positive attitude towards their eating and from the feedback I have had so far Kieran and Padraig have achieved their task.

A big thank you to both of them for giving up their time and for providing each girl’s with a yummy goodie bag!
