Nina Jackson, mother of past Woldingham students Portia (1995) and Olivia (1997), is organizing a cycle challenge to take place in Cuba in November 2010, in order to raise funds for The Children’s Trust in Tadworth. During the years that Portia and Olivia attended here, the School ran a programme where Sixth Form students did half day voluntary work at The Trust. It was this connection that led her to becoming involved with them on this project. She has ten years experience in organizing, promoting and administering charity cycle challenges, as well as itinerary/route planning, organizing and tour-managing cycle holidays.
The Children’s Trust is a local national charity working with children who have multiple disabilities and complex health needs and offers a unique combination of skills and experience in meeting the complex needs of children with profound disabilities, as well as a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of their families. A shortfall in statutory sources means they rely on voluntary donations from supporters to meet the full cost.

Cycle Cuba is a fundraising challenge where participants must obtain a minimum of £2,750 sponsorship each, in order to take part and where there is an interest in or a connection with The Children’s Trust. Potential participants will be between the age of 18 and say, 65 (there is no upper limit but doctor consent is required over 65), male or female, have a sense of adventure and are not frightened to get themselves cycle fit! It is not for the professional cyclist although often an already keen cyclist will take part. The cycling distance is approx 350 km in 5 days and full mechanical and medical back-up is provided.
