CCF Self-Reliance

During the Easter Break intrepid cadets from year 9 took part in the annual self-reliance test. This involves a 7 mile walk navigating by map across the Ashdown Forest, surviving on an army ration pack and then setting up camp using only a poncho (no tent!). The walk went well and for the first day of walking the weather held off. Unfortunately during the night the heavens opened and the tremendous downpour enveloped some of the bashas that the girls had built. Two girls who got completely soaked, sleeping bags as well, ended the night by sleeping in the minibus but the rest survived the whole night. All the girls seem to have enjoyed the experience although were glad to get home and into dry clothes! Miss Andrews
