Did you know that 1 billion people in the world don?t have access to clean water? Or that 2 million people die each year as a result of water related diseases? When Duncan Goose and a group of his friends found this out they wanted to do something to change those figures. They decided they should launch a not-for-profit bottled water, One, which gave all its profits away to fund well-building programmes to install unique children's roundabouts in Africa. As the children play on a roundabout, it drives a pump which extracts the water which is then pumped into massive storage tanks, So far over 650 have been installed. Each roundabout is built near a school or cr裨e so there is never a shortage of willing volunteers to help power the pumps!
Duncan has kindly agreed to come to Woldingham on the 29th March 2006 to give a talk about founding One water, its ethos and its work with Roundabout, an amazing charity based in South Africa. We have invited a number of other local schools to join us on what we hope will prove and interesting and stimulating evening.
