Cadets Flying at RAF Benson
This year, nine girls from year 9 have travelled to Caterham school on a Wednesday evening in order to become cadets in the Caterham School CCF- one in the army section and eight in the RAF. During their recruit training they have learnt about patrolling, camouflage, weapon handling, drill and navigation. Natalie Light attended the weekend recruits camp and seemed to thoroughly enjoy herself despite the very early morning PT sessions during which she had to wish a "good morning" to various buildings around the camp in between performing physical exercises.

Academic achievement is a priority at Woldingham, but, as any of the girls can confirm, there is a lot more than only their studies to keep them busy and engaged.
We believe the wide range of extra-curricular activities available at Woldingham enhances their studies and produces well-rounded individuals.
The girls are always ready for a challenge and we believe the gallery showcases their many talents and provides you with a glimpse of the exciting things the girls get up to outside the classroom.

Woldingham Goes to Westminster
On Friday 21st June, the Lower Sixth politics groups enjoyed an informative tour of the Houses of Parliament. After a customary visit to Pret a Manger for lunch, we walked to Westminster and our first stop was Number 10 Downing Street. With only one week to go as Prime Minster, we were disappointed that Tony Blair was not at home. Apparently, the European Union summit was a more important call on his time.

After the tremendous success of our 2005 trip to Peru in 2005, July of this year saw 22 sixth form girls and 4 staff members embark on the second World Challenge expedition to Kenya and Uganda.
31 days of acclimatisation, trekking, community work and rest & relaxation lay in store for the girls who had spent the last two years preparing for the trip, which included February in Buxton (not warm!) and raising the majority of the money through various projects such as concerts, parties, cake sales, sponsored runs and even bag packing! Saturday Active Highlights
Weekends at Woldingham are action packed with a variety of activities on offer. One of the most popular recent additions to the weekend programme is Saturday Active. This term has again been successful with girls regularly taking part in the numerous activities available. On the early evening of 15th June we are to hold another clay pigeon shoot against Tonbridge School and very much hope that the girls will be on form and show Tonbridge how skilled they have become at the sport. Trampolining has proved to be a great success with all of the girls passing Trampolining Awards, some achieving up to grade 7. The final session on 16th June will involve a friendly lacrosse competition involving boys from Wallington lacrosse Club, a fencing competition and an archery competition as well as final sessions in all the other activities. The programme for next year is already in preparation and it is hoped that with some completely new activities introduced there will be something for everyone once again.

Charity Walk

Planning the Route
This term?s House event was the sponsored walk, which all girls from year seven to eleven participated in. We set off bright and early, supporting our Houses; Barat, Digby, Duchesne and Stuart with colours blazing. As we began our walk through Woldingham?s grounds there was a great sense of enthusiasm and House spirit, which remained through out the day.

Relaxing after the hard work
Congratulations are in order for the 52 Bronze DoE participants have now successfully completed their practice expedition and are about to embark on the assessed one which will involve them walking from Haslemere Station across to the Devils Punchbowl. Everyone seemed to enjoy the practice in which they had to plan their route to the campsite at Biggin Hill and then return to school via a different route on the Sunday. They were very lucky with the weather and some of them created some unusual menus to cook on their trangia stoves! The majority of girls have already completed the other sections of the award so having created a project on their final expedition will have completed the entire award.

Scaling the Heights

It is very easy for us to stay within our comfort zone stick to the things we know we can do. Well, our present year 9 students had a chance to see how it feels to come out of their comfort zone during their Activity trip to Hindleap Warren Activity Centre in Ashdown Forest. As always with Woldingham Girls they were certainly up for the challenge. To view photographs of the day please click here

Dynamic Woldingham Staff

On Sunday 9th September, visitors to Richmond Park will be greeted by an unusual sightthe 20 mile per hour speed limit will be ignored as cyclists and runners whiz around the perimeter road in the third London Duathlon. Perhaps an equally unusual sight will be a glimpse of 6 members of Woldingham staff pushing themselves to the limits in this event!

New Look Library
The new academic year in September will see a new look the Woldingham School library thanks to the hard work this term of the librarian, Mrs Ruffle and her assistant, Mrs Adamson. The old arrangement of the library over four rooms and with a junior library at Marden has always been problematic. The advent of the Sixth Form Coffee Bar in the Nicholson room coincided with a review of our library collections and as a result a lot of work has been taking place to reorder and refocus the library.

No mountain is too high for a Woldingham girl

Woldingham's Day on China and Globalisation
On Wednesday 20 June the Year 9 timetable was suspended and the pupils spent the day learning about Chinas increasing importance in the Global village. The aims of the day included the pupils making connections between the content of different subjects and having an experience of Economic and Politics, subjects which some of them might study in the Sixth Form. A teacher of Mandarin, Anne Martin, who teaches at Whitgift School, ran a session on the basics of Mandarin and its increasing importance as a world language.

Woldingham Shows Language is Fun
The KS2 German Fun Day is aimed at Y 5 pupils (boys and girls) who would enjoy and appreciate experiencing a major European language in its context. The event combines fun language learning with a rich programme of activities (sporting, Arsenal FC will be involved, musical, artistic, even culinary). The pupils will encounter the language in its context in a relaxed way without performance pressures. We hope to broaden their horizon and help them make informed language choices later on in their education.

In December 2003 Michele Bowman of The Robert Bowman Gallery, Duke Street, St. Jamess, created the S4K (Sculpture 4 Kids) with a visionthat sculpture should play a greater role in the school curriculum by encouraging school art departments to participate in a nationwide school sculpture competition. The theme this year was The Environment Coral Reefs and many girls in year 7 and 8 enjoyed designing and planning their sculptures and four entries received Highly Commended awards. Four of our Year 8 Girls were awarded Highly Commended, watch this space as their work will be displayed soon.
