Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Harry Kroto FRS, is passionate about his subject

Woldingham has an excellent record in the Sciences and as part of our commitment to promoting awareness of the importance of Science education (particularly for women), we are hosting a Conference entitled 'Science and Citizenship in the 21st Century' on 27 June 2006.

This Symposium explores our urgent demand for scientists and a scientifically literate society, and also the role the new 21st century Science curriculum can play in meeting this demand. All our speakers are distinguished scientists with excellent track records in science, science education and technology including women scientists and technologists debating the issues facing women in this field today. Professor Sir Harry Kroto FRS, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Professor Jonathan Osborne, Department of Education and Professional Studies, Kings College London and co-author of Beyond 2000  and nd Jenifer Burden , Co-director for Twenty First Century Science: a new curriculum for KS4, a collaboration between the University of York Science Education Group and Nuffield Curriculum Centre.

A plenary session will be held at the end of the Symposium. Jenifer Burden, Dr Mike Shipton, Head of Science at Woldingham School and Dr. Peter O?Hare, director of the Marie Curie Research Institute will sit on the panel and it will be chaired by Miss Vernon.
